Slate at MoneyLive London: Rethinking Investment Platform Delivery

On 9th March, Slate participated in MoneyLive London, one of the leading events for banking and financial services innovation. Our Growth & Partnerships Lead, Cristina Machetti, took the stage to share how financial institutions can rethink the way investment platforms are built and launched.

Her session focused on a key challenge facing banks today: delivering modern investing experiences without being slowed down by legacy infrastructuret.

The reality banks are facing

Financial institutions are under increasing pressure to modernise their investment offering. However, long development cycles, fragmented tech stacks and high build costs continue to slow down innovation.

Many banks still allocate the majority of their IT budgets to maintaining legacy systems, making it difficult to deliver the seamless, intuitive and mobile-first experiences that clients now expect.

From complexity to execution

Cristina shared how Slate approaches this challenge through real-world delivery.

In one example, a Tier 1 bank needed to launch a scalable investment platform combining brokerage and self-directed investing. Legacy systems made speed and flexibility difficult to achieve.

By partnering with Slate, the bank deployed a modular, fully integrated trading platform with seamless third-party integrations—accelerating time to market and reducing complexity.

The result was a modern investment app launched in just 6 months, already processing over €1B+ in transactions and built to support ongoing innovation and scale

Rethinking how platforms are built

The session highlighted a clear shift in how investment platforms should be delivered:

  • Move faster without starting from scratch: Traditional builds can take 18+ months. A modular approach enables institutions to launch in a fraction of that time.

  • Build around flexibility, not constraints: Modern platforms must support multiple investment journeys—from self-directed trading to automated investing—within a single environment.

  • Reduce complexity through integration: Seamless integrations across brokers, custodians and third-party providers are key to delivering a cohesive experience.

  • Focus on experience, not infrastructure: By relying on proven technology, institutions can shift their focus to what matters most: the end client.

Looking ahead

As digital investing continues to evolve, the ability to launch and scale quickly is becoming a defining factor for financial institutions.

At Slate, we’re helping banks, fintechs and asset managers rethink investment platform delivery—bringing modern, scalable solutions to market faster and more efficiently.
